This packet of 12 problems is about helping children become problem solvers. These problems will reinforce the STANDARDS FOR MATHEMATICAL PRACTICE as defined by the CCSS.
The problems emphasize showing and explaining your thinking. I suggest using PICTURES, NUMBERS and WORDS.
You can use these problems as a guide to help your students walk through a problem solving task (the first 2 problems are presented for step by step discussion), for independent or group practice, or as an assessment.
There are a variety of problems but all of them have more than one step and in most cases you need to use the information you have found to answer the next question. Some of the problems have more than one solution as well.
In most cases I have leveled the problem. There is the regular problem, which is then followed by the same problem that has been modified to be easier. This problem is marked with an “E” in the lower right hand corner. In some cases there is an additional problem with an “E2” in the corner.
I have also included 2 graphic organizers that students can use to solve any math problem step by step.
I hope you enjoy this. I would love your feedback.
