This puzzle is a blend of various lessons that can be done individually as homework or extra credit, or in pairs (if the students are younger.) The intent is to blend some math with learning a little something about the BIG EAST Conference. The math which will be learned is focused around learning exponents and working with the order of operations. (Included IS a short cut way to square numbers ending in five . . . with examples to illustrate the procedure.) The blend is in learning a little about the history of the BIG EAST Conference . . . while having a little fun doing so. The answer to the entire puzzle is a quote (and its speaker) that applies well beyond the basketball players to whom it was addressed.
