This five page Black History / Langston Hughes Poetry lesson lets students enjoy 5 poems by Langston Hughes. Accompanying the poems are brief explanations of how Mr. Hughes shared beautiful scenes and moving experiences. Students are asked nine reading comprehension questions about the poems and explanations. Four questions are multiple choice and five are short answer ones. One is about Langston Hughes himself, based on his biographical information at the top of the first page, where there are also two photos of him. The five Langston Hughes’ poems are: 1) Trip: San Francisco, 2) City, 3) Garment, 4) Refugee in America, and 5) Youth. The nine interpretive questions focus on the comprehension skills of locating details and making inferences. The lesson can be used as a poetry or Black History resource. Being a word document it is easy to print off and also edit if necessary. The 6th page is an answer key.
