BLACK JAZZ MUSIC HISTORY - DRUMMING ACTIVITIES
Completing a unit on Black music history? Try these drumming activities by getting out drums and other rhythm instruments whilst learning about prominent black women and men in the field of Jazz. These activities can be set for a whole class or in small groups or centers.
This drumming set uses quarter notes (crotchets) and rests, eight notes (quavers), half notes (minim) and one set of triplets. This kit comes with instructions for developing polyrhythms, composing rhythms as well as instructions for three games including poison rhythms, rhythm bingo and a recall game.
Full page slides are included for projection as well as cards for students in both color and black & white copies.

Each poster includes information about the musicians life, the genres of jazz they practices, their instrument as well as their date of birth/death. Additionally title posters are included so you can categories the composers into male and female groups.
The bulletin board is provided in both black and white as well as colour copies. This set also includes an ink friendly version with no background for your convenience.
BLACK HISTORY: MEN AND WOMEN OF JAZZ FLIPBOOK
What better way to learn about the famous black men and women of jazz than to make a flipbook? This flipbook allows students to learn all the important information about the musician. Each page contains the composers name, the place of birth, dates of birth/death, the instruments the musician plays, the genres of jazz they contributed to as well as a short blurb about the musician. It is easy to assemble, too! Just print the pages and place a ring in the top left or right hand corner. Print on card stock or laminate to keep the flipbook for years to come.
This file includes a black/white version for students to color and a colored version.

Old Maid is a classic card game that all kids and adults love especially designed for Black History Month. In this version your students will also be reinforcing their familiarity with the names of famous men and women of jazz.
Included in this set are two sets of cards: one that can be printed in color and one that can be printed in black and white. Also included are printable directions so you could use this as a center game. This also works well in the general elementary classroom as a cross-curricular connection.
This works GREAT in music class and in the music teacher’s “Sub Tub!” Also works well as an “indoor recess” activity for general education classroom teachers.
