Product Description
Completing a unit on Black music history? Try these drumming activities by getting out drums and other rhythm instruments whilst learning about prominent black women and men in the field of Jazz. These activities can be set for a whole class or in small groups or centers.

This drumming set uses quarter notes (crotchets) and rests, eight notes (quavers), half notes (minim) and one set of triplets. This kit comes with instructions for developing polyrhythms, composing rhythms as well as instructions for three games including poison rhythms, rhythm bingo and a recall game.

Full page slides are included for projection as well as cards for students in both color and black & white copies.

Jazz artists introduced in the unit include:
Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday, Etta James, Melba Liston, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Alice Coltrane, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Mary Lou Williams, Terri Lyne Carrington, Art Blakey, Art Tatum, Charles Mingus, Mat King Cole, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Johnny Hartman, Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis.
