Blurt it Out! Is a FUN SPEECH THERAPY WORD ASSOCIATION GAME COMPANION for the popular board game "BLURT!"

This companion includes 18 game boards (9 different games) to target both speech and language goals. The different games are meant to stimulate conversation, build social skills, and facilitate target skills in a natural age-appropriate play-based activity. Players roll the die, are given clues about a word depending on the number represented on the die, and try to guess the word. The game offers two versions (original and junior versions).

This game companion would be appropriate for upper elementary (4th grade) through middle school (8th grade).

Students use target words in each of the three color-coded boxes that match the playing cards. The first player to fill each box with 5 words wins.

How to Prepare and Play the BLURT it Out! Companion Games

Print and Laminate the game boards. Distribute one board to each student based on their speech/language goal. You can use the fold-out game board from the box while you play if you choose but it’s not necessary. The student rolls the die on his/her turn. The clue is read and the student guesses the word. For students with articulation goals, choose card that include the target sound (/r/ alarm, butter, escalator, etc.).

The student answers the question or finishes the sentence stem depending on the roll. Students can use a dry erase marker to write the word in the box. The player Who fills each box with 5 words first is the winner.


*The game can also be played without designating winners.
