The BOLO (Be On The Look-Out) Invasive Species Research Project will bring a novel approach and a little fun to a project on invasive species. It can be used with any invasive species. And it’s NO PREP for you!
It helps student to look for the most important information while researching an invasive species. And it provides them with an imaginative and creative way to demonstrate what they have learned. Students complete a BOLO Alert (see the thumbnail) as if they were officers in an international organization of environmental protection agencies in search of an invasive species "suspect"!
You’ll receive a teacher’s guide, a sample/instruction model, a blank BOLO form for students to complete, and an annotated additional resources page. This is such a low prep activity that you could even leave it for a substitute!

It’s a post card writing activity for students in which they pretend to be “selling” a location to a potential invasive species! Of course we don’t really wish they were here! But it helps students to find out what characteristics of a habitat make it a likely candidate for invasion by a specific invasive species. And it also helps them to practice writing a short persuasive argument! (Your ELA colleagues will love you for that!)
