Product Description
Task cards are very popular items in elementary classrooms. Easily adapted to any content area and grade level, task cards make for a welcome change from just completing a worksheet for skill practice. This set of cards is perfect for practice identifying synonyms for the word “beautiful” within the context of a sentence. These 24 cards can be used for a Scoot, Scatter, or Scavenger Hunt activity or as part of a self-checking literacy center (an answer key and QR codes are provided).

To prepare these cards…
1. Print the Playing Card pages 3-8 .
2. Laminate the pages for durability (optional).
3. Cut apart the cards.
4. Print the cover page and glue it onto a large envelope.
5. Print a copy of the Recording Sheet and the Answer Sheet, pages 9-10.
6. Place the Playing Cards, Recording Sheets, and Answer Sheet in the envelope for safe storage.

To play Scoot…
1. Place the cards around the room face down in front of each student. Use as many cards as you like. If you wish to use all the cards, simply double-up cards in front of some students if necessary.
2. Give each student a copy of the Recording Sheet or have each student number a sheet of paper from 1-24 (or however many cards you choose to use).
3. Students begin by answering the card(s) in front of them, writing their answer(s) on their paper next to the matching number.
4. After an appropriate amount of time, call “SCOOT!” and students turn the card(s) face down and move to the next place where they answer the question on that card.
5. Play continues in this manner until all items have been answered or time runs out.
6. Collect the student sheets to assess yourself, check them together in class, or permit students to self-check their work.

To play a Scavenger Hunt…
1. Scatter the number of task cards that you wish to use around your learning space, taping them onto objects or laying them on surfaces.
2. Give each student a copy of the Recording Sheet or have each student number a sheet of paper from 1-24 (or however many cards you choose to use).
3. Students walk about the area, locating and answering the cards.
4. Collect the student sheets to assess yourself, check them together in class, or permit students to self-check their work.

To play Scatter… best for a small group
1. Place the number of task cards that you wish to use face down on a flat surface (table, floor, desk), scattering them about.
2. Give each student a copy of the Recording Sheet or have each student number a sheet of paper from 1-24 (or however many cards you choose to use).
3. Students sit in a circle around the cards and take turns drawing cards at random from the pile.
4. Students should read and answer the cards until they have completed the required number.
5. Collect the student sheets to assess yourself, check them together as a group, or permit students to self-check their work.
