Looking for an easy, healthy, and interactive physical activity break for your students? How about an engaging activity to balance academics and classroom downtime? As educators we know and understand the limited attention span of our students! This activity incorporates movement, exercise, music, spelling and classroom participation. The BRAIN BREAK WORKOUT CHALLENGE was designed, created and inspired by my middle schools students within a special education setting. Promoting healthy lifestyles, meeting sensory needs, and just getting out all that extra energy, anxiety, and frustration of a typical school day!
How it Works:
Students choose a WORD to spell and complete an exercise assigned to each letter of their WORD. Every LETTER of the alphabet is assigned an exercise! Exercises may be edited based on student or staff preference! Cool down time is highly recommend after any physical activity. In my classroom we implement Mindful Meditation after any physical activity. Student's stretch, take deep breaths, and complete a quiet activity within their designated areas.
-Picture example of how to display the workout activity in your classsroom.
-7 simple steps on setting up the workout.
-A-Z alphabet cards in PDF or word document files (editable)
-Student hand out page of alphabet and exercises.
-Cool down instructions.
-Bonus workout challenge for every day use.
The Design and Necessities:
-Access to a printer.
-A designated area or classroom space for movement.
-Device that plays music. YouTube is my favorite!
-Yoga mats or floor mats (optional)
-Visual display of alphabet and exercises.
The WORD DOCUMENT FILES make it possible to edit your exercises to whatever you would like! All exercises listed have been tested and are doable within a small classroom space. Change it up or design your own exercises to fit your classroom space and students' abilities. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me! Thanks.
