Whether you need bell-ringer presentation slides or just want to occasionally mess with your students’ minds when you have a few unused minutes at the end of a class period, this four volume set of Brain Teasers has everything you need to keep your students working hard and thinking deeply.
There are LOTS of ways you could use this collection of 152 questions (304 total PDF slides – the question is on the first slide and the answer with an eye-catching image is on the second slide), including:
1. Use as a routine bell-ringer activity to begin class one or two days each week. I use these as Brain Teaser Tuesdays (I enjoy alliteration), but they’ll work great any day of the week.
2. Use them to soak up those occasional last few minutes of a class period as a sponge activity when a daily lesson wraps up more quickly than you planned.
3. Use them as part of an ongoing team activity/contest that runs a full nine-week quarter. Each nine weeks, one of my colleagues sorts her classes into teams of three students. Then, students occasionally compete against the other teams throughout the quarter in review games, grammar skill-builders, and these sorts of brain games. She keeps a running tally of the teams’ names and earned points, updating her website each week with the class standings. As the quarter rolls along, her room starts to feel a little like Hogwarts (“Ten points for Gryffindor!”) and the teens really love it. At the end of the quarter, the team with the most points wins a prize or bonus points in the gradebook.
4. Use the slides as a reward for classes that hit certain benchmarks or goals.
There are 152 total questions – four sets of 38 questions in PDF format, each with a separate attractively designed answer slide. Use ‘em all with one class or divvy ‘em up to use with all of your different preps. However you decide to use these slides, I hope they find a place in your teacher’s toolbox of activities. Students are enthusiastic about these lighter activities that provide a fun way to help develop word sense, logic, and lateral thinking.
All four volumes are available for individual purchase, but you’ll SAVE NEARLY 20% by buying this money-saving bundle.
PLEASE NOTE: Volume #1 and Volume #2 of these Brain Teaser materials (the first half of this bundle) are also included in my FULL-YEAR H.S. BELL RINGER BUNDLE VOL. 2.
