This is a handmade Part 2 for the English Regents Common Core Exam NYS.
This exam was first seen this month, and it is so new that the actual test and grading materials are not yet available on the state's website.
This activity recreates the state's part 2 with carefully researched articles which attempt to mimic the type of language and activity students will likely see when they take the exam.
In part 2, students are asked to read four pieces of non-fiction and produce an argument. In this argument, they are required to cite three of the four texts. I have included four texts which carefully match the lexile score range they are likely to see (based on the June 2014 exam). I have also re-created the task using the exact language the state uses (but for this topic).
Also included is the rubric for grading this essay and the essay booklet (blank lined pages). All are authentic materials.
This has been tagged as only one Common Core Standard, but it's the exam...it covers more standards than one.
*the exact topic of this activity deals with students developing an argument about whether or not the school day should be extended.
