These 1st grade phonics & spelling lessons and assessments were made in collaboration with the fabulous first grade teachers on Heather's campus. They needed a phonics product that was HMH Journeys & TEKS aligned and had the continuous review of Saxon Phonics. Originally, this curriculum was made in D'Nealian handwriting as that is their preferred handwriting style. But, because we've had so many requests from teachers wanting these lessons in manuscript/Zaner-Bloser handwriting, we decided to do our best to meet their needs. These lessons print beautifully in color, but look just as great in black & white.
Each week, you'll find:
1) daily lessons with embedded handwriting practice
2) homework
3) spelling assessment
4) phonics assessment
5) spelling flashcards
6) cooperative learning cards & suggestions for use
7) teacher instructions & answer key
These week 7-12 lesson sets feature fall/autumn, Columbus Day, Halloween, and patriotic/Veteran’s Day themes and address the following:
WEEK 7:
Phonological Awareness: Segment & blend phonemes
Phonics:
•Short I (CVC/CVCC)
•Short E (CVC/CVCC)
•R (CVC/CVCC)
•R Blends (CVCC/CCVC/CCVCC)
Spelling: did, will, six, grin, trip (phonics), how, of, some, in, big (high frequency words)
WEEK 8:
Phonological Awareness: Segment phonemes, middle sound
Phonics:
•Short U
•L Blends
•S Blends
•Review of R/L/S Blends
Spelling: hop, block, pop, clock, fox (phonics), on, not, her, she, got (high frequency words)
WEEK 9:
Phonological Awareness: Segment phonemes, middle sound
Phonics:
•M
•J
•Digraph th
Spelling: must, sled, step, thick, bath (phonics), get, after, was, that, them (high frequency words)
WEEK 10:
Phonological Awareness: Segment phonemes, middle sound
Phonics:
•Digraph ng
•Suffixes -ing, -ed, -es
Spelling: foxes, glasses, yelled, sanded, kicked (phonics), us, thing, long, jumping, bring (high frequency words)
WEEK 11:
Phonological Awareness: Blend & segment phonemes
Phonics:

Spelling: chin, chop, match, pitch, chip, much, chick (phonics), off, very, out (high frequency words)
WEEK 12:
