This timed write is meant to be a summative assessment given in either a block class period or two standard class periods. For this timed write, students are required to analyze and connect an important character in Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun with either "Harlem" or "Let America Be America Again" by Langston Hughes.

We always start out our ARitS unit by reading both poems by Hughes as preparation for our pre-reading Socratic seminar over civil rights and the American dream, so the students have had exposure to Hughes' poetry and I have brought it up in class in connection with our reading of ARitS multiple times.

Rubric is included to make scoring as easy as possible. As always, all files are editable. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
