I created, Reading Is Fun, as a year-long phonics and foundational reading skills curriculum for my kindergarteners. Like most classes, my students have varying abilities; therefore, I needed a way to offer fun, differentiated instruction to address all types of learners. I use this in my own classroom and my students love it. It keeps them engaged and interested, which anyone who teaches kindergarteners can agree, is almost never an easy task. The interactive whiteboard slides will provide you with a visual and hands-on approach to teaching these early reading skills.
Odd numbered chapters (1-7) in Reading Is Fun, focus on introducing the letter names and forms, while the even numbered chapters (2-8), focus on letter sounds and phonemic awareness. Chapters 9-13 introduce word families and beginning blending skills. Each lesson's slides has a cover page with the learning intention (written as an "I can" statement) and the success criteria. Additionally, all chapters include warm-up slides before each learning intention is introduced, 1-2 sight word lessons, and one reading comprehension/fluency lesson with an original easy-reader story. Notes are provided on the first slide of each activity.
NOTE: ActivInspire slides can be used on any interactive whiteboard, as long as you have the program downloaded.
