This unit is designed to have mini-lessons, discovery learning, critical thinking, cooperative learning, and rotation style lessons.
The lesson format is aligned with current research on brain engagement—the first 5-10 minutes grabs the interest of the learning the next 20 minutes to explore the learning in a rotation style or hands on style, and the final 5-10 minutes to close out the lesson and capture the most important details for the brain to remember. Lessons may span over longer than one day. With 9 lessons, this unit will take 2-4 weeks to complete depending on how long each activity takes your group of students.
These lessons are on not intended for passive learners. Learners must be actively engaged! This unit also uses high engaging technology. This includes videos, Kahoots!, and QR codes.
The bulk of the unit consists of rotations. Each rotation day is flexible enough to last 1-2 days. You can easily modify each lesson depending on your time allocations. Rotations include comics, videos, foldables, experiments, projects, and exploration.
This unit can be adapted to meet the needs of grades 3-8.
