Students compile an advice book for an expecting teacher by completing sentences which inquire about suggested names for the new baby, the best and hardest parts about having a baby, and things the new mother should always or never do. Makes for a very touching and sentimental, yet entertaining, gift for a teacher who is about to enter the world of motherhood.
At my school, I used this with my 2nd grade and 4th grade students to surprise our expecting teacher. Their genuine, heartfelt sentiments and advice had us in tears as well as fits of laughter as their responses varied from mature and sophisticated to youthfully honest. Kids say the darnedest things! Some of my personal favorites included:
• "The best thing about having a baby is seeing his eyes open for the first time."
• "The hardest thing about having a baby is buying good toys before they sell out."
• "You should always give him lots of kisses."
• "Make sure you never let your husband feed the baby."
This download includes a cover page, entitled "Out of the Mouths of Babes (Oft Times Come Gems): Unfiltered Advice on Motherhood Straight From Your Students," and an advice letter with sentence starters ready to be completed by the students!
