The Journal Jot is designed to be a supplemental writing activity. Students can write their thoughts down when given a shorter amount of time (Jot that thought!). This activity can be incorporated into a Writer's Workshop, upon arriving at school, or at a writing center.
With this activity, you can mix and match the pages to create a Journal Jot for your entire class or to meet the individual needs of your students. You can add as many or as few pages as you’d like to create a Journal Jot. You can put the Journal pages together ahead of time or have the students choose their own journal pages and bind their student-created Journal Jot together. The “Journal Jot Response” pages are a great way to connect writing at school to writing at home. Parents and others can respond back to a student's Journal Jot.
