Back to School
Read the Room
Searching for a fun new way for your students to practice identifying what letter a picture starts with?
Ready to 'kick-off' a new school year with some independence and fun?!
Want a center that is little to no prep but has your newest little loves up and about?
Eager to integrate technology with little learners?
This Back To School/School Supplies themed 'read the room' activity will engage your independent learners and they will have no idea they are practicing alphabetic principle and phonics!
It is sure to get them back into the routines of school, centers, learning and fun- with a technology spin that will 't-app' into their interests!
This pack can also be used throughout the year, as the 'school' theme is appropriate for all year long!
The center can also be used as a 'stationary' center rather than read the room. Place cards in baskets or buckets rather than tape around the room!
Don't have a device to scan the QR codes? That is fine! It can be used without that feature, as well!
This Pack Includes:
*Directions/Suggestions for use
*12 QR Reader Codes with a ‘Back To School’/’School Supplies’ Theme
*3 Recording Sheets (for differentiation)
Directions/Suggestions For Use:
***You will need a QR scanner to use the QR code feature. The cards can be used without it too!***
(QR scanners can be downloaded for free)
Print and laminate cards. They can be placed in a basket/bucket on a table for a stationary center activity and/or taped around the room as a ‘read the room’ type activity.
Students look at the picture and write down the letter the picture starts with and/or the word to describe/label the picture.
Choose the recording sheet that best matches the skill level of your students.
Scanning the Codes:
Students can scan after each letter/word they record or you can have them check them after all are completed. Students can give themselves a ‘check’ for each correct answer. The code will reveal both the capital and lowercase letter, as well as the word.
If you do not have a device to scan the QR codes you can provide an answer sheet for students to check
Follow up activity: Students can use one of the words they found in a sentence.
