A fun, unique way to get to know students at the start of the school year. Works especially well in math and/or science classes, although it can be used anywhere.
Students are asked to create a self-portrait following specific instructions to use "glyphs" or symbols for different features. For example - "If you loved school last year, give yourself a round head. If you liked school last year, give yourself a square head. If you thought school was just "ok" last year, give yourself a triangle head."
After the students have drawn their self-portrait teacher can have each student display and explain their portrait, or the teacher can ask students to try to find another student with a similar (or different) portrait.
Included in this download are detailed instructions, a student worksheet, and several portrait frames so students can choose their own frame. (Color and Black-and-White versions of the printables are included!)
A great "First Day of School" activity AND the finished product makes an incredibly eye-catching bulletin board for Back-to-School Night that parents go nuts for!
