Students love Cootie Catchers! Use a different character education themed pattern during the first days of school to help students get to know each other. As students play, they ask the get to know you questions. The questions begin with basic questions that put students at ease. By the last day, the questions get more personal so students really get to know each other. There are 4 patters with interactive ice breakers.
These are a great way to get your students talking with each other and sharing information as they get to know each other. Best of all, you will learn a lot about your students as they share with their partners. Choose two different partners for each Cootie Catcher and your students will get to know 8 new classmates in the first week of school. Choose 3 partners for each Cootie Catcher and your students will get to know 12 new friends! Let the get to know you begin!
As as bonus to you, the words on the edges that students spell out are character traits so you can reinforce and teach your expectations for the year as well. After using all four of the the Cootie Catchers, you would have reviewed the importance of 16 character education traits.
The Cootie Catchers are designed to allow students to share information slowly as they become more and more comfortable.
Cootie Catcher #1: My favorite things (non-personal information to help break the ice)
Cootie Catcher #2: A bit about me (basic information)
Cootie Catcher #3: More about me
Cootie Catcher #4: Hopes, Dreams, and Wishes
