A unique classroom activity perfect for Back to School. Students create a classroom language of their very own by moving letters around in the alphabet and/or adding symbols in place of letters. Students and teacher can use their new language throughout the school year for a variety of different activities.
Positive notes from teacher to student
A fun way to put an extra-credit question on a test
Mystery Positive Reinforcement: Allow a student to choose tickets with prizes written in secret language: No Homework, Extra Computer Time, Positive Phone Call Home, etc. Students will not know what they have won until they translate their ticket.
A way for students to communicate with a teacher without others knowing what they are saying
A fun way to choose students for classroom jobs – print slips with each student’s name written in the Classroom Language, have the students determine who has been chosen for each job
Use student’s names in Classroom Language to choose partners
Introduce new units in Classroom Language so students have to translate what they will be learning about as an activating strategy.
The download provides teachers with:
- a detailed teacher guide
- ideas on what to do with your Classroom Language
- a sample Classroom Language so students can practice with a language already set up
- a Classroom Language translator for each student to keep with them for future translations
- a student worksheet to provide practice for the students and feedback for the teacher to make sure all students understand what to do.
