How do students set up rules for the class? How can students introduce themselves to their peers? How can teachers learn about their students? How can students learn about their classroom? What do students know about mapping, math, reading, and writing? How can teachers authentically assess their students at the beginning of the year besides the endless “required” assessments?
These questions can be answered at the very beginning of the year as students engage with their new environment, peers, and get in touch with themselves. These beginning of the year activities are recommended for grades 3-6.
Of course, you can add or subtract activities that have worked for you in the past!
Happy Beginning of the School Year!!!!!
