Your students will LOVE this all about me back to school activity that will have them making a 3d cactus that stands on its own! Three different shapes of cacti are included, so students can have a choice of which one to complete. Together, they’d make a GREAT back to school display entitled, “We’re a Sharp Bunch!” or “What a Sharp-Looking Bunch!” Many of the questions have a cactus theme, such as, “What is something you’d like to sharpen up this year?” and “What is something you’d like to stick with this year?”
Each cactus in this activity has 6 panels, with different questions to answer in each panel. The one longer answer will be written in the large cactus part, and the two short answers will be written on the flower pot (see completed example page). I have also included blank templates for each cactus panel if you want to write in your own question. (This is an optional step – to make a stable cactus, you only need to include 6 panels). Students will answer the questions on each panel (answers show up best if written in black pen or fine tip marker). They will then cut out each cactus (encourage students to cut each cactus out individually, rather than a few at a time, for better accuracy). Decorate the cactus panels, and then assemble the resource into a 3D activity, perfect for display (see next page). The order of the panels does not matter when assembling the craftivity.
Each craftivity requires 3 student pages (two panels per page), scissors, glue (I prefer white glue over glue sticks for staying power, but either will work), and paper clips to hold the panels together while the glue is drying. You have three different options for printing (you want your craftivity to be sturdy enough to stand on its own):
- Print on white construction paper
- Print on cardstock
- Print on regular paper, then glue onto construction paper and cut out around
