Every teacher needs a clear set of rules and expectations for their classroom, so that students know what to expect and how to regulate their own behavior. This is a sample participation sheet for distribution to students in a middle- or high-school classroom containing the classroom rules and space for the student's self-evaluation as well as the teacher's evaluation. The participation sheets may be collected on a biweekly basis for grading according to the students' performance.
The expectations are organized into a humorous acronym, G.R.A.S.P., S.O.N.! Each expectation is graded on a five-point scale, with the total of the teacher's evaluation representing the student's grade. The reasons for any deviations between the student's self-evaluation and the teacher's evaluation may be noted on the sheet. The sheet is fully editable to allow the teacher to add or modify both the expectations and the grading rubric.
