Class Packet: Content, Rules & Procedures
This first day of school class packet will set you and your students up for a successful year in your classroom! On the first couple days of school I go over my classroom packet that includes my rules/consequences, procedures, tips for success and more! I also refer to the class packet throughout the year. It's a great way to teach your expectations to your students and you can include fun role-playing activities. The following topics are covered in the packet:
✓ Rules and consequences
✓ How to be successful in class
✓ Classroom procedures
✓ Participation and On Task Rubric
✓ Homework policy
✓ Signature Section

Student Questionnaire Form
This student questionnaire consists of 8 "getting to know you" questions. As students walk into my classroom on the first day, I give them this student questionnaire form at my classroom door. I tell them to find their assigned seats (projected on the Smartboard) and then they spend the first 15 minutes of class completing the questionnaire form. It's a great way to start class on the first day since it allows your new students to settle in and it gives you the time to take attendance. It also sets the stage for the rest of the year that you expect students to engage in classwork right from the start of class. Plus you'll learn a lot about the learning styles and interests of your new students!

Classroom Scavenger Hunt
This is a great activity for the first day or week of school. It's an active activity that gets your students out of their seats and walking around the room answering your questions while familiarizing themselves with your classroom. Students can work on their own or with a partner to practice their collaboration skills and to get to know one another. This resource includes 23 questions about the classroom, including 5 geography questions.

Autobiography Jacket Cover
This is a great way for your students to reflect upon their own life experience, to share their favorite memories with their classmates and for you to get to know them. Your students have an opportunity to create the book jacket of their (imagined) autobiography. They'll create the cover, spine and back cover. Each section of the book jacket includes specific requirements such as illustrations, writing, and designs. This is a great project to showcase at your Open House!

Travel Brochure of Favorite Places
As a way for you to get to know your students at the beginning of the year, they will create a travel brochure of their favorite places. Their completed brochure will help you learn about their interests, hobbies, and leisure activities that they enjoy. An example of a favorite place can be on the window seat of their family room, on another continent, or anywhere in between. Their travel brochure will include images and descriptions of their favorite places. This resource includes directions and a rubric.

Redesign the Dollar Bill to Represent Your Interests
In order for you to learn about your new students this school year, their task is redesign the dollar bill to reflect their hobbies, interests, goals and achievements. The project includes a combination of writing, designs and illustrations. Students will also have the opportunity to complete a chart to learn the significance and meanings of the phrases and images on the current U.S. dollar bill. This resource includes directions, a rubric, a two-page chart about the U.S. dollar and an answer key.

In order to get to know your students as you begin the new school year together, your students are going to create an illustrated timeline that showcases their most memorable and significant events in their lifetime.
