Description
#DistanceLearningTpT Promote a positive classroom community as you transition through the school day with these musical "brain breaks." Children will learn to "Start the Day With a Smile," follow rules, line up quietly, be a good friend, clean up, end the day with a smile, and more.
This file contains 23 mp3 tracks including karaoke versions, plus a pdf file including lyrics and suggestions for all songs. Connect music with motions at the beginning of the year. Encourage children to read as they sing to promote reading success. Use in conjunction with the video set, available HERE. You can get the BUNDLE HERE.
I've included 4 song samples in the preview file:
1. "Start the Day With a Smile:" Try some simple motions as you listen to this sample.
-Point to your smile and "bop" with the song at the beginning.
-On "Say good morning to everyone," place your arms outward to show that you're including the whole class.
-Next, point to yourself as you say "good morning" in four different languages.
-Point to children as they repeat.
2. "Please Listen Quietly:" Listen to this quiet sample to see how you can completely transform your classroom atmosphere with a song. For motions, just follow the directions in the lyrics to give your children a consistent formula for refocusing in your classroom: "Place your hands on your head. Place your hands on your shoulders. Fold your hands in your lap."
3. "Wash Your Hands:" Show children how to cover their mouths using their sleeves instead of their hands. Act out each section of the song to transform washing hands into an exciting activity. In my own classroom, I play this entire song with the whole group at the beginning of the year. We follow the motions "prescribed" in the song. Later, a child will point to words as the class reads along. I also play the song as I pass out hand sanitizer or ask children to wash hands in the sink. Often, it's perfect timing!
4. "Be a Good Friend:" This song reminds children at the beginning of the year--and throughout the year--how they can be great friends. For motions, try these:
-"If a friend needs help:" Use both pointer fingers to point to the class.
-"Show you care:" Place both hands over your heart.
-"Learn to take turns and share:" Place your hands outward.
-"To make friends everywhere:" Move your arms outward to show that you're including the whole class.
-"Be a good friend:" Alternate holding your own hands to show friendship.
-"Show you care:" Place both hands over your heart.
-"Be a good friend:" Hold your own hands.
-"Learn to share:" Place hands outward.
-"Be a good friend:" Hold your own hands.
-"When you play:" Make a running motion with your hands.
-"Be a good friend:" Hold your own hands.
-"Everyday:" Move your arms outward.
Motions to this song can be like a fun puzzle. You may want to simplify at the beginning of the year for pre-K - Kindergarten children.
