Every year I struggled with how to teach middle school students my classroom expectations. They see numerous different teachers with a number of different sets of classroom rules….uhg! Then along came PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System). This was the answer to my woes! Finally a streamlined set of simple rules for EVERYONE! A colleague and I chose to take a non-traditional route to teaching these “classroom expectations” by utilizing the station/center model. I have been doing this for the past five years, with slight modifications for each grade I have taught. Guess what…it is simple…. and It Works!
This is NUMBER 1 for me EVERY SINGLE YEAR! Sometimes I make revisions and repeat the activity after Spring Break. The kids enjoy the flexibility and the unique take on learning my classroom expectations.
