I use this activity with my students to practice their counting skills and number recognition. The students count the number of objects on the card and then must find that number at the bottom of the card and clip a clothes clip on it. You can use any item to mark the number such as counters. I choose to use clothes clips because it help with fine motor skills at the same time as counting and number recognition. For my lower students I start out with one through ten, for my middle students we work on one to twenty and for my high students we work on the one through thirty to provide a challenge with them. I use this activity in small groups with students to provide more one on one support. I have paired students up together during these groups so that they have peer support also. There have been times that my students have come to me and asked to do this activity by themselves without my help. I have used it as a choice for students at math centers before also. This activity allows me to also do informal assessments to monitor students between formal assessments.
