Great for the first day of school or for use in the first week of school,
this packet is designed to add creative thinking and fun to your back to school routine. Great for gifted and advanced learners and outside-of-the-box thinkers.
In the first several days of school, there is a lot of sitting, talking, and reviewing of procedures. It is necessary, but it can feel tedious without breaks. Don’t forget to give kids a little time to stretch their brains. Use these activities in between procedure talks.
Some of the activities are designed to be completed whole class, specifically Truth or Dare and Get to Know…GEO! The rest of these activities work well as stations, small-group activities, partner work, or even independent work. There is a lot of flexibility, so you can choose how and when the activities will fit best in your busy schedule.
*All About Me Kite--students decorate a kite to represent themselves, great for parent night display!
*Getting to Know Your Textbook--a scavenger hunt for any nonfiction textbook.
*Best of the Summer--students reflect on their summer and write the best movie, best outdoor activity, and many other "bests."
*If I Was--students use their imagination to tell what they would be if they were a candy bar, animal, vehicle and many more items.
*Writing Prompts--a simple and fun way to get students writing and see where their skills lie.
*Measurement Time Capsule--students will measure different body lengths (height, length of foot, circumference of head, etc...) and save to compare with the end of the year
*New School Year Resolutions--students will reflect on different aspects of school and write resolutions and goals to commit to.
*Letter to Your Teacher--students will use the template to write a letter to you.
*Classroom LIbrary--students will use this form to record books they hope to read this year. There is a spot to color the titles as they read them.
*Team Task Cards--a collection of fun team building cards designed to get students working together and thinking.
*Get to Know...GEO!--a new take on the "find someone who" activity.
*Truth or Dare--classroom friendly get to know you and icebreaker questions and equally classroom friendly (albeit silly) dares. Great for relieving the stress of the first day of school!
