Start the year off HOT! Try to CRACK THE CODE!
The beginning of the year can be a stressful time for students and teachers. Ease the stress by engaging students in a fun activity that will allow them to get to know each other through challenging tasks!
This digital breakout activity will have students collaborating, using critical thinking skills, and thinking outside the box. It begins with a story to set the scene: the pizza for Pizza Friday has gone missing! Meatloaf and broccoli will be served unless someone can locate the pizza!
That's where your students come in. They will race against the clock to solve a series of clues and input the correct codes into the Google Form. If they can complete each code in time, they can deliver the pizza back to the lunchroom!
All you need is internet access, the ability to access out-of-domain sharing of Google Drive resources, and several student devices. (cellphones, tablets, Chromebooks, laptops, etc.) This can be done individually, in pairs, or small groups. I recommend no more than 4-5 to a group.
With this activity, students can take control of their own learning. It also teaches them to persevere when they are presented with a challenge and reviews previously learned skills in a fun way. It's a win-win for everyone!
