This back to school first grade packet of activities is perfect the first weeks of a new school year. It includes a literature activity, calendars, number and writing printables, and booklets. You’ll also find a getting to know you activity and quilt block crafts that integrate art and math.

Back to School First Grade includes:

• First Day of School Folder Covers - Three different back to school folder covers are included. The folder provides a place to keep take-home papers.

• This Is Me! Drawing - Students draw and color a picture of themselves on the first day of school. The pictures can be displayed and kept for first grade memory books.
• First Day Smile - Take a first day of school photograph of each of your students. Photographs can be glued to the frame on the printable.

• I Can Write Letters - Students independently write the capital and lowercase letters of the alphabet. Use these for beginning of the year samples or assessments.
• I Can Write Words - Students independently write any words they are able to write. The activity can be used for a beginning of the year sample or assessment.
• I Can Write Numbers - Students write numbers independently. These can be used as number writing activities or beginning of the year number writing assessments.

• My Writing - Students write about an assigned topic or a topic of their choice. The printable can be used for a beginning of the year writing sample. You can also save it for a first grade memory book or use it as an end of the year writing sample.
• August and September Calendars - Students fill in the numbers on the calendars. They can also write in important events and holidays.
• My Favorites - Students draw pictures of some of their favorite things. Pictures can be labeled and shared with classmates.
• My First Week of School Writing Booklet {format 1} - Students write what they do each day in first grade during the first week of school. They trace the beginning of each sentence frame and complete the sentences. Students can take these booklets home at the end of the week and share them with their parents.
• My First Week of School Writing Booklet {format 2} - This is a similar booklet to format one, but each day’s writing is on a full sheet of paper. The students write their own sentences for each day of the first week of school and illustrate the sentences.
• Picture It! - Students draw pictures of themselves, their family, home, pets, and age. They can share these with their classmates. They can also be used on a ”Getting to Know You” bulletin board display and kept for memory books.
• My Handprint - Students paint their hands and make their handprint on this page. It can be saved for a first grade memory book. It can also be used as an end of the school year activity {includes color and black and white versions}.

• Find a friend . . . - Students find other classmates who match the words and pictures in the boxes. Classmates write their names in the boxes.

• I Love Learning Bookmarks - Give one to each student during the first weeks of school to promote reading and learning.
• Summer Fun! - Students draw pictures to show 5 fun things they did last summer.
• My Summer Writing - Students draw a picture and write about what they did during the summer.
• My First Week of School booklet {literature-based activity} - This is a companion activity to the book, First Grade, Here I Come! by Nancy Carlson. In the booklet, a mouse asks the students questions about their activities during the week. Students add information on each page of the booklet to tell about the things they do during the first week of school. Students take the booklets home at the end of the week to show their parents what they did in school.
• Back to School: Our Class Favorites - Students write about their favorite activities during the first week of school. They illustrate their writing. Use the cover and compile the stories into a class book {includes black and white versions of the cover}.
• Back to School Quilt Blocks - Students use paper rectangles/triangles to make quilt blocks of an apple, schoolhouse, and face.
• Book List - list of read aloud books for the first weeks of school.
