At the start of the year, I use this activity to establish several components of my English class. First, it servers as a "getting to know you" activity because students write about personal ideas and share them with the class. It also helps them to practice creative writing as it gives them two writing choices for each slide. Lastly, it helps give them a background in color associations, so as we read literature throughout the year where color is mentioned, they can connect author's purpose to what they previously learned about that color. The activity can be broken into several warm-ups...students write about two colors each day until their worksheet is completed and colorful.
