Get your kids engaged and build classroom community with these dramatic play cards! From the beginning, students will open up and build relationships with you and with one another.
Dramatic play forces students to think on their feet and be creative problem solvers on the go! This type of activity also builds a sense of risk taking so that students realize it’s OK to try something new! They will also hone their speaking and listening skills as well as concentration, storytelling and inferencing!
There are two types of cards, improv and pantomime. Take just a minute to go over the guidelines with the students using the improv and pantomime guidelines sheets, then have a student come up to select a card. The pantomime cards are individual, but the improv cards all call for 2 – 4 players. Don’t spend too much time deciding who will play what. Just have them raise hands or draw names out of a bowl or hat.
Your kids will never want to stop this activity! I recommend setting aside time each day the first couple of weeks of school and then pulling them back out whenever you have a chance or putting them in a center. Dramatic play is new and fresh every time!
