This product is perfect for the first week of school! Many children, especially kindergarten students, are nervous for the first day of school. This differentiated activity allows students to make new friends, work with others, and see how much fun school really is!
What is this activity?
For this low-prep activity, students will all be given a card with a school-related object on it. Inform the students that there is another friend in the classroom that has the same card as they do. The students will search for their partner!
After each child has located their partner, they will work on their partner activity sheets. On these sheets, they draw a picture of their partner on the head template and find out about their partner's interests. You can differentiate these by having students either draw pictures of their partner's favorite things or they can write them.
When complete, students will have learned all about one of their classmates, which helps for an easier transition into the school year!
Why should I use this activity in my K/1st classroom?
Giving students a sense of independence in the classroom is a wonderful thing (for them and for you!) because this teaches responsibility early on. Students work with a partner to complete this fun activity!
Starting school and going back to school for a new year can be very difficult for children socially. This activity allows them to meet someone new, learn about them, interact with them, and HAVE FUN with them! This is important, especially for children who have a difficult time making friends, because now they will have at least one person (besides you!) that they know and can turn to for help.
-Learn about our new friends and classmates
This activity allows children to learn all about a classmate. This can also take the overwhelming feelings and pressures away at feeling like they must learn everyone’s names and something about them. They can now focus solely on one person and get to know them instead of trying to remember all of their classmates names.
-School is FUN!
Many children coming into Kindergarten their first year are extremely nervous. This activity shows that school is not a place to fear or dread, but a place where you can learn through fun activities and work with others! The same can be said for children entering 1st grade. Going back to school is always a bit scary, so start the year off right, and set the tone for a positive, collaborative, and welcome learning environment!
