Product Description

These 11 engaging activities span the first 2 weeks of school and help you set the tone for your classroom and foster a sense of community. This resource will help you get to know your students, help the students get to know you, and more importantly, help the students get to know each other.

This Resource Includes:

Activity #1: Take a Guess?

On the first day of school I ask the students to take a TRUE/FALSE quiz about me, based solely on first appearances and observations of my classroom. Included is the EDITABLE version so you can type in your 10 TRUE/FALSE questions in the text box.

Activity #2: What Do We Have in Common?

This activity gets the students out of their seats and talking with their classmates. I included an EDITABLE version so you can change the categories as you like by clicking on the text box.

Activity #3: Learning About Each Other

This activity has the students asking their classmates LOTS of questions as they discover things about each other they never knew before, and talk to students they’ve never spoken with before. I included an EDITABLE version so you can change the categories as you like.

Activity #4: Respect

This is one of the most important lessons I do each year. It is imperative the students begin the year knowing the behavior I expect of them. After the discussion on RESPECT, they sign the respect contract that they know the behavior I expect of them. I included an EDITABLE version so you can change the questions as you like.

Activity #5: Thought Web

I like my students to begin the year knowing that change is possible. I want them to SEE what a successful student looks like, and strive to achieve that. I included an EDITABLE version so you can change the questions as you like.

Activity #6: Our Duties and Responsibilities

This lesson also sets the tone for the year. When we each do our job, the year is successful for everyone.

Activity #7: Getting to Know You

This is a Student Information Sheet that helps me get to know the students’ family dynamic, attitude towards my class, and their strengths and weaknesses. Each of the text boxes is EDITABLE, so you can change them as you like.

Activity #8: Appointment Clock

This is something we use throughout the year. It gets the students out of their seats and learning in a collaborative setting.

Activity #9: T-Shirt

I often do this activity on the first day of school as a team. Then when all 100 students are done, we hang them on a clothesline for Open House. It’s a fun team activity. I included an EDITABLE version so you can change the directions by clicking on the text box.

Activity #10: All About You!

These next 2 are my FAVORITE activities. If you are looking for an easy and more personal “Getting to Know You” activity, this is great. I included an EDITABLE version so you can change the categories as you like by clicking on the text box.

Activity #11: The ABCs of

If you are looking for a more in-depth “Getting to Know You” activity, this is a whole lot of FUN! The students brainstorm something about themselves for each letter of the alphabet.
