This math and literacy activity pack for kindergarten will fit in perfectly your back to school curriculum! It includes a number of fun and engaging learning activities to help build skills for students starting out the year.

Math Activities
Countin’ Monsters– students place little monsters on each side of the counting mat, then they match the number of each pile to the number of minions. They finally record their answers on the recording sheet provided. K.CC.A.1

Monster Addition – students add the number of candy on the mat provided and record their response. Optional use of dry erase pens on the mat while laminated on an A3 size. K.OA.A.1

Add & Cover – students roll the die, add the number of dots and color/dot paint the number they rolled, the game continues and the first person to color all their numbers in wins. K.OA.A.1

Number Frame Monsters – students choose a number card and represent the number on the ten frame using little minions on the laminated mat. K.CC.B.4

Floating Monsters – students sort the cards to count by 2’s and by 10’s. They then record their responses using the recording sheets. There are differentiated sheets for this activity. K.CC.B.4

Monsters More or Less – students spin the spinner, choose the corresponding card (with the correct minion on it) then their partner spins and collects a card, they compare the numbers by indicating whether the number is larger than, smaller than or equal to the other. They continue this to fill in the whole page. K.CC.C.6

Ten Frame Match-up – students match the ten frame cards with their numbers and record their answers on the recording sheet. Black and white cards provided. K.CC.B.4

Measuring Monsters – students use cubes to measure each minion, then they record how many minions they needed for each picture. K.MD.A.2

Literacy Activities
Sight Word Monsters– Race to the bunch of bananas! Choose a sight word card from the pile. If you can read the word correctly, roll the die and move forward the number of spaces shown. If not, stay where you are. The first player to reach the bananas wins! L.K.6

Write the Room Monsters – students find the words around the room and record them on their recording sheets. – guide provided. An optional card choice of empty letter boxes for using with dry erase markers. L.K.6

CVC Monster Candy Match – students match the pictures with the correct CVC word then record their answers. Differentiated recording sheets provided. L.K.6

Candy Search Around the Room – students look for the candy words around the room and then record their responses. L.K.6

I Have…Who Has? – shuffle the cards and hand out all the cards to the students equally. Let the students begin by saying “I have A, who has B?’ then the person who has ‘B’ answers and so forth. RF.K.1(a)

Feed the Monsters – Students match the bananas with the uppercase letters and record their responses. RF.K.1(a)

Spinning for Monsters - Spin the spinner and dab the words with a dauber or color the words in. RF.K.1(a)

I See a… Sentence Construction – students match the correct phonic words to make a sentence, then record their responses.
