BACK TO SCHOOL MATH TASK CARDS: These task cards were created based on the grade five expectations from the Ontario Curriculum. All measurements are in metric units.
Print these cards on thick paper or cardstock, cut them out and laminate them (optional). As a teacher you can use these task cards in a variety of ways including centers/stations, with small groups of student or independently for the whole class. You could also use them as part of interactive notebooks and have students glue the questions and answers into their notebook.
Most of these cards were created to be open ended. The answers will depend on a variety of factors and will vary depending on teacher input and student independence level. For example, task card number 1 asks “If each student in our class has the same calculator how many buttons are there in total?”. You as the teacher may want to review with the class how to approach questions such as this. They could use their own calculator and use it to represent the “same” or they could count the buttons on a “classroom” calculator or you could tell them the specific calculator you want them to use. How you approach the open ended nature of these questions is up to you.
