This bundle includes the following activities and materials:
Back to School Counting Mats
: These counting mats are perfect for back to school. Use them for counting practice, or to informally assess your students’ skills. Cut out each mat and all of the corresponding objects, in order to complete the activity students must sort the objects and count the correct number of items onto the correct mat. This activity requires students to sort, match, and count groups of objects up to ten.
Back to School Patterning Set
: Help children practice patterning by finishing the patterns created with the colored pencils. This set includes aba, aab, and abc patterns. Children complete the patterns by placing the appropriate pencil at the end of each incomplete pattern. This set also includes two blank mats so that children can create their own patterns.
Back to School Writing Prompts and Get to Know You Activities
: Ask your students to draw themselves using the template on the following page, then help them cut out their drawings. When you have collected a drawing of each student in your class, arrange them like a wreath and glue them together. Hang the wreath in the classroom or on your door for everyone to see.
This is a great activity for getting to know each other, and for creating a classroom community. The visual presented by your class wreath will remind all of the members of your class that they are all necessary and vital to the classroom community.
The other pages included in this set can be used to create a class book, compiling all of your students’ answers to these welcome back prompts. These pages could also be used as portfolio pages showcasing students’ writing level at the beginning of the school year. The youngest students can dictate their answers for great storytelling practice.
Back to School Letter Matching
: Help students practice letter recognition and sounds using this matching game. Each capital-letter notebook has a corresponding lowercase letter pencil. Children can match these, and make the letter sounds as they work.
Back to School Crayon Counting Activity
: This counting activity is perfect for introducing quantities, counting, and practicing number recognition (this set includes materials for numbers 1-10).
Laminate all pieces for durability and cut out laminated pieces. After laminating, use clear tape to secure the front of the crayon box to the back of the box, taping along the three edges shown on the diagram. This will create a pocket for children to count the crayons into. I have also included 10 frames that you can attach to the back of the pockets if you choose.
Printable Teacher Stationary
: This stationary set is the perfect gift for yourself or your favorite teacher. It includes notecards in 2 different formats (postcard size and half-page size), to do lists that are split into morning, afternoon and evening, and class locator cards to hang on your door when you leave the classroom. These bright colors are sure to grab the recipient’s attention and make all of those notes just a little more fun!
Back to School Vocabulary Cards and Spelling Practice
: Use these vocabulary cards to introduce your students to new words. These are perfect for writing centers and activities. This set includes the words; notebook, pencil, crayons, ruler, scissors, calculator, school, bus, book, and globe.
This set also includes a set of cards that has pictures and spaces for children to practice spelling the vocabulary words with letter tiles. You could also use the second set to have each child write in the words themselves to create their own vocabulary card set.
Back to School Alphabet Book
: This book is a great way to celebrate back to school while encouraging literacy. Each letter corresponds with a camping themed vocabulary word which will help children practice letter sounds. Print one for each child, or a few for a center. You could also have children create their own back to school themed alphabet to go along with each of the letters.
