If you are like most teachers, you dread the proverbial parent(s) who may shout out a random question or comment during your Back to School Night presentation! To ease some of your Back to School Night jitters... (yes, I still get them after 15 years of teaching)...simply leave a Questions, Comments, Concerns Form on each of your students' desks. Then remind the parents that although you'd love to answer individual questions or address comments that they'd like to make, there simply isn't time on Back to School Night to do so.
I tell parents I will look at each form and get back to them ASAP via email to answer their questions or reply to their concerns. This takes the weight off of your shoulders for the night, and you can focus on your presentation and share your excitement of being the teacher of this wonderful group of students. I've found that it also helps keep parents busy writing if you don't like so many eyes staring at you while you are speaking!
I hope you find this resource helpful, and that you have a wonderful school year!
