Looking for a short activity to do with parents on back to school night? Why not give them a taste of what their students experience each day in class? This activity teaches parents the French version of Baa Baa Black Sheep, and requires them to practice the same reading strategies we ask our students to use in their new language: activating prior knowledge, looking for context clues, using cognates, etc. It shows parents how building skills in a second language can be approachable and fun, and it’s also a great activity for parents to work on as they are waiting for others to arrive in your classroom, before your “official” talk begins. Total time required: 5 minutes - a perfect icebreaker! You could even have a small prize for the winning team!
