This packet contains activities that will get students learning from the very first day. They will also help classmates get to know each other and their teacher while calming those first-day jitters.
*This School Year Will Be the Best!: Students draw and write about something they hope will happen this school year. I like to use this activity after reading the book "This School Year Will Be the Best" by Kay Winters.
*A Letter to My Teacher: Students write a letter to their teacher to introduce themselves and let their teacher know what they are good at and what they hope to learn about this year. This is a great way to get to know your students!
*My Teacher: Fact or Fiction?: Students read sentences about their teacher (some are pre-written and some you will write) and decide if they are true or false. A great way to let your students know a little about you while teaching fact or fiction!
*Find-a-Friend: Students find classmates that meet certain criteria until their board is filled. This is a fun ice-breaker activity for the first day of school.
*All About My Friend: Classmates interview each other, record their answers, and share their findings with their class.
*How to Get Ready for the First Day of School: Students write or draw the steps they took to get ready for school on the first day.
*Venn Diagrams: Students make a Venn diagram that tells about their school year last year and the year coming up. Two diagrams are included: one for kindergartners and first graders, and another where the students fill in the grades.
