This packet includes four separate activities. The first two are surveys for the parents or guardians of your student and a survey for the student. Not only does it ask logistical questions but it also delves into who the student is as a person and what I may need to know to make the year successful.
My favorite activity in this packet is A Million Words or Less where parents are asked to really describe who their student is as a person in the world. What the parent's fears are but also what their most proud of their child for. They can write as little or as much as they'd like.
It also includes a family-driven activity called a Calendar of Class Culture where students sit with their parents and document the dates of all cultural or familial celebrations that will occur during our upcoming school year. We compile one large class calendar with all of those dates and it hangs up all year long. They are able to present a short explanation of the celebration when that day arrives.
