some “coolness” your classroom this year with this PENGUIN Classroom Management Pack. The following are descriptions of how I use the elements in my classroom, but you can obviously use them any way you want!
Perky Penguins Behavior Chart – I hang header with the three posters underneath “I need time to finish my homework”, “I need time to think” and “Recess Ready” on a bulletin board. I have one close pin for each student. All students start on “Recess Ready” but are moved because of behavior and/or not having their homework. It is an easy way to glance over before recess and see who I have to check-in with at recess.
Please Stop Your Behavior Chips – I copy and laminate a bunch of these chips before the school year starts. When I want a minor behavior to stop, I drop one on a child’s desk without saying anything. This also is a visible and tangible “warning” before your close pin is moved.
Thinking About My Behavior – I use this for incidents that do not really warrant a detention. This is a great way to “track” minor incidents and I really like that the students are award of the consequence if the incident happens again.
Homework Heroes – I have another set of magnets around this poster. At the beginning of the week, all students start with their magnets on/around the poster. When a child does not have their homework, they have to move their magnet. Whoever is left at the end of the week gets a small prize.
Desk/Misc. Labels – you can use these as desk labels or for general classroom organization.
Perky Penguin of the Week- At the end of the week, I chose one boy and one girl as the “Perky Penguin of the Week”. They fill out this organizer about themselves and I hang it in the room. In my classroom, they are in charge of feeding the class pet for the week.
Table Numbers – I have these hanging from the ceiling in my classroom above my desk clusters. It is an easy way to collect papers, line up, etc.
