I use this Pirate Themed "While You Were Out..." Cover Page as the front cover to my "absentee" folder.
For my absentee folders, I simply made several color copies of the page and laminated them. Then I stapled the cover page onto the front cover of a two-pocket folder with metal tabs.
Inside the absentee folder, I add a couple of clear page protectors using the metal tabs. That way there are two pockets AND the two page protectors to place notes home, worksheets, assignment sheets, and etc.
I keep the absentee folders in a bin at the front of the room and have several students assigned to keep up with preparing folders for absent students.
When the missed work is completed, the student just keeps it all in the absentee folder and turns it in to me. I take the work out and return the folder to the bin at the front of the room. It's worked out very well in my classroom for years now.
