Sentences missing punctuation marks with all uppercase or lowercase letters are a common occurrence in younger grades! I created Punctuation Pick as an activity to help my students practice sentence writing, identify and use punctuation and capitalization appropriately, and to work on their handwriting while they're at it!
This common core aligned resource may be used in literacy centers or in group work. You will find two versions of the activity included in this set.
In this activity, students will pick a card, read the sentence, and then write the sentence adding the correct punctuation and capitalization where needed. Once written correctly, students will illustrate the sentence in the space provided. The second version allows students to read the sentences twice and pick the sentence that has the appropriate punctuation. The recording sheet includes handwriting lines to aid in proper letter formation.
In this center students will:
-Pick a card
-Read the sentence
-Write the sentence in their neatest handwriting, using uppercase letters where needed and appropriate punctuation
-Illustrate the sentence
My teammates and I currently use this "Punctuation Pick" center in our first grade classrooms each week and feel it would work great in other grades as well! We have found it to help improve students handwriting in addition to enhance their sentence writing skills.
I hope you and your students enjoy this center as much as we do!
Please let me know if you have any questions about this center and check back as I add new ones!
Thank you so much,
