Product Description
Welcome students back to school with these free QR code conversation starters! This QR code activity is great if your students love to chat as much as mine when they return back from Summer Vacation! Leverage that excitement and welcome them back with a fun and meaningful speaking and listening activity using QR codes!

***Please NOTE:*** This product links to photos in Dropbox. Please download my FREE QR Code Activity to test that the QR codes open on your school device (and on school wifi) before purchasing this product. If one of the freebie's QR codes works, they will all work.
I value your time!***

**This is part of my larger Weekly QR Code Content Center Activities for the YEAR {A GROWING Bundle!}, which is priced for huge savings! **

Students will scan QR Codes that link to engaging, color photographs displaying questions about their summer vacation. The color photos also include conversation starters to scaffold the activity for English Learners and beginning writers. Choose to have students simply discuss the prompts with their partner, or use the included student response sheet and have students record their response prior to engaging in discussion with their partner. Call out, "Switch!" when you see students wrapping up their conversation, and students move to scan the next QR code and discuss the next conversation prompt!

QR Code Cards Set Up:
Print the QR code cards and cut in half to separate the two cards on each page. (I like to print them on colored paper and laminate to use over and over.) Post the QR codes around the classroom or school (I like to add challenge and build excitement by hiding a couple cards under tables and behind doors).

Pass out the student response sheets. Choose the sheet that best fits your students level of writing. One response sheet lists the card numbers and blank space to write, while the other response sheet gives students a sentence starter to begin their response.

Student Task:
In pairs, students set out to locate the QR code clues with their copy of the student response sheet. Students use an iPad, iPhone, or Smartphone to scan the QR code on their first card. (They LOVE this part!) Any free QR code reader will work with this game. A color photograph showing an image and conversation question will appear.

Students respond on their answer sheet. After both partners have jotted down their answer, partners share their responses and converse about the topic until the teacher calls “Switch!” Note: The cards can be read in any order. Students record their answers on the line that matches the number on the bottom left of each QR code card.

Easily integrate technology using this QR Code activity as a Speaking and Listening technology center. This tech activity makes an engaging, no prep, technology center for teachers with:
- iPad Classrooms (Both 1 to 1 iPad Classrooms, and single iPad classrooms)
- BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) Classrooms with students’ wide variety of iPads, iPhones, tablets, etc.
- BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Classrooms
- Classrooms with just a couple old Smartphones (Android or iPhone)…like my classroom! :)

*Call it what you want to call it (BYOD Center, BYOT Center, iPad Center, Technology Center, or Speaking & Listening Center), and watch how excited your students get when they try it!

To easily download a FREE QR Code Reader from the App Store (for iPhones & iPads) or Google Play (for Android phones and tablets), just search the phrase, “QR Code Reader” and choose the QR scanner you’d like. I personally use “QR Code Reader” on my Android and “QR Reader” on my iPad & iPhone. Both apps work well for me, but any free QR scanner will work!
