Are you looking for a back to school activity that will build a the concept of classroom community during those first weeks of school? This project highlights how each student in the classroom is a unique individual, but put all together, you create one large community of caring companions placed together for this year!
This project can be completed one of two ways. Students can complete their own mini quilt as a craftivity, and glue it to construction paper, or students can create their own quilt block that can be connected with their classmates' blocks on a bulletin board (thereby creating a classroom quilt). Perhaps you even want to add the title "WE ARE SEW READY FOR ___ GRADE!"
This project is not exclusively a back-to-school project. You can obviously do this at any time during the school year as a team building activity. Parents would love to look at it during one of the annual family events, too! (Open House, Parent-Teacher Conferences, School Carnival, etc.)
This product includes two versions- one suitable for upper elementary students, and one more appropriate for lower elementary grade levels.
Student-friendly directions (with photos) are included with the upper elementary version so that you can place the directions under your document camera, and students can refer to them as they complete the project.
