Description
These four mini-lessons were created to aid in students’ social emotional learning and well-being as they return to school after an extended break due to COVID-19. They are 10-15 minute whole group presentations with discussion, followed by a small amount of independent reflection and processing. Each lesson includes 2-3 interactive Google Slides for use in virtual learning and 1 worksheet for use in school-building learning.
1. Back to School Feelings: Students will identify and express the different emotions they have about returning to school.
2. Lots and Lots of Changes: Students will identify and process the changes related to returning to school this year.
3. Hello New Year: Students will develop a hopeful attitude for the new school year.
4. Coping With the Stress: Students will learn and practice skills for when they are upset in school or having trouble focusing in school.
These can be used for in-person lessons or for distance learning. They apply to students learning virtually, in person, or in a hybrid situation. If you aren’t able to use these for synchronous learning, you can record yourself narrating the slides and upload the lessons as videos.

You can post the slides as an assignment in Google Classroom™ (just make sure to select “make a copy for each student”) or you can share with any student (or parent) that has a Google login. It also will work as a PowerPoint assignment for Microsoft Teams (PowerPoints of the presentations are also included).
