The invention strategy and the STEAM activity posters in this resource can be used as whole class or small group introductions to STEAM and the engineering process. Stepping into STEAM is the perfect way to get your students started as makers! They can also be posted and used at a center or carried out easily by a substitute teacher.
The SCAMPER through Inventions posters will challenge your students to think creatively and flexibly. They make great beginning of class warmups or brain breaks on their own! Students can SCAMPER just about anything they find in their own desks or backpacks.
The 20 activity posters can be easily facilitated with just a few materials, in most cases. They cover the usual STEM challenges such as Saving Sam, bridge and tower building, ramp and pipeline construction, and catapult design, along with some more unique challenges. The posters can be used in your Maker Space or at another center in your classroom. They can also be used to introduce the activity to your whole class. Some of the activities have the necessary supplies pictured, and some suggest using Maker boxes. You can find supply lists for these boxes in my Maker Space Free Guide to Getting Started.
These activities are also great for PD trainings for teachers! I have used them when presenting at teacher conferences and everyone loved participating!
You will also find included a scaffolded STEAM journal (two versions) as well an easy-peasy design recording sheet for students.
