Building vocabulary routines is an important component in a balanced literacy classroom. Use the analogy with students that collecting vocabulary words is like collecting seashells. Discuss with your class that this year we will be collecting words from the texts that we read. We will write them on an interactive word wall in our journals. I suggest using the foldable to make a model anchor chart, too. Laminate the anchor chart and use a dry erase pen to add or change words per unit.
